A fairly new addition to DIRECTV's lineup, SELECT™ is their lowest-priced plan available. At 155 channels (about 5 less than Entertainment), it includes a broad range of general-interest channels and categories. DIRECTV launched the SELECT plan in 2014 to more closely compete with DISH on price. and at $59 .99 /mo it certainly does just that (price locked in your for the entire 2-year contract). Select is essentially the Entertainment package minus 8 channels. Those eight include a few big players in the sports and drama TV markets. Specifically, you won't get ESPN, ESPN2, FS1, IMPACT, HSN, Teen Nick, TLC or TNT. So, basically, it skips the entire ESPN suite as well as the educational/fun combo of TLC and TNT. Fox Sports 1 and its impressive mix of national games (MLB on Saturdays, NASCAR, PGA, etc.), are also notably missing. That's the bad - the good is the Select plan includes 155 high-demand movie, sports, news and entertainment channels (quite a few were on premium/add-on packages just a few years back). Bottom line, if you're not big on the 8 channels above or can do without 'em, you'll be hard pressed to find a better plan for the price.
PERFECT FOR: those looking for rock-bottom prices with little interest in ESPN/FS or the shows on TLC and TNT.
